What is the most common cause of infertility in a female?
Infertility can be defined as unsuccessful efforts by a couple to conceive over a course of one year. When the cause of infertility exists in female it is called Female infertility.
The most common of all causes of female infertility are:
Problems with ovulation – This is a hormonal imbalance that occurs and is termed as PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)
Excess body weight – An increased body weight (overweight or obese) has a risk of infertility. In this case loosing body weight can cause a woman to get pregnant.
Damage to Fallopian Tube – A blocked or damaged fallopian tube can prevent the sperm from getting in and fertilizing. A surgery has to be done to open the tube.
Age – An increased age can contribute to infertility because the infertility of a woman reduces naturally with increasing age.
Abnormal Cervical Mucus – Abnormal cervical Mucus will prevent the sperms to reach the eggs and penetrate the eggs.
Uterine problems – Fibroids can interfere with the reproductive problems depending on the number. Fibroids that are not in lining may not affect pregnancy but however pose a risk of miscarriage.
