Cost of IUI Treatment in Gurgaon
Heard of IUI infertility treatment? If you have been childless after years of marriage and are looking for the correct treatment, look no more than Neelkanth Hospital, the best infertility treatment centre in Gurgaon.
Apart from IVF and ICSI, we also are experts in IUI or Intrauterine insemination. This is a fertility treatment where sperm are placed directly into a woman’s uterus. During natural process of conception, sperm have to travel from the vagina through the cervix, into the uterus, and up to the fallopian tubes. With IUI, sperm are “washed” and concentrated, and also placed directly into the uterus, which puts them closer to the egg. This process increases the likelihood of pregnancy in certain couples who have had difficulty getting pregnant.
Who needs IUI help?
IUI is a relatively noninvasive and less-expensive fertility treatment compared to more invasive and costly treatments such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or ICSI. In most cases, IUI is the first treatment for infertile couples, and only if this is a failure, do certain couples think of IVF or even ICSI. In many cases, couples achieve pregnancy with IUI itself.
Mostly IUI is used in the following scenario:
- Unexplained infertility
- Mild endometriosis
- Issues with the cervix or cervical mucus
- Low sperm count
- A couple wanting to avoid passing on a genetic defect from the male partner to the child
- Decreased sperm motility
- Issues with ejaculation or erection
- Same-sex couples wishing to conceive
- A single woman wishing to conceive

Good Candidates for Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Women who opt for IUI need to be in good health, as a good ovary is important for the process to be successful. It's important that women have a good ovarian reserve, which means quality eggs that are viable and healthy.
However, there are certain situations when IUI is not recommended by the infertility specialist.
- Women with moderate to severe endometriosis
- Women whose fallopian tubes have been removed or blocked
- Women with severe fallopian tube disease
- Women who have had multiple pelvic infections
- Men who produce no sperm, in which case a donor sperm will have to be used.
How is IUI done?
IUI is a relatively painless and noninvasive procedure. IUI is sometimes done in what is called the “natural cycle,” which means no medications are given. A woman ovulates naturally and has the sperm placed at a doctor’s office around the time of ovulation. Ovarian stimulation is done at the same time using natural or synthetic methods, as more number of eggs will increase chances of pregnancy. Each medical facility and doctor will have their own specific instructions for the IUI procedure. After your initial consultation, when you and your physician have determined that IUI is the best course to pursue, a typical timeline may include the following:
- Pre procedure checkups for health parameters and diseases.
- Start medications if required as per advice of your specialist.
- If medications are prescribed, you’ll usually start taking them while on your period.
- About a week after starting the medication, you’ll likely have another ultrasound.
Depending on your test results, your doctor will determine when you’re ovulating, and you and your partner will return to the clinic. This is typically 10 to 16 days after starting the medications. On the day of procedure, male partner will provide a semen sample or the donor sperm will be thawed. The sperm will immediately be taken to a lab where they will be “washed.” This is a process where the seminal fluid and other debris are removed so that the sperm is very concentrated and unlikely to irritate the uterus. The entire process is quick and does not require anesthesia.
A pregnancy test is taken typically two weeks after IUI procedure.
Any risks associated with IUI?
IUI is a risk free process. However, chances of twins or triplets are high with this procedure, so it is good to check with your specialist. Also, in some cases, there could be infections. Hence, listen to your doctors to avoid unnecessary complications.
IUI vs IVF vs ICSI
A tough choice and it all depends on the health of the couple as well as advice of specialists. All of them have their own advantages in terms of cost and effort needed, but ultimately it is medical advice that is critical.
An ejaculatory abstinence period of around 2 days before IUI produced the highest pregnancy rates per cycle compared with longer intervals of ejaculatory abstinence. This higher conception rate occurred despite a lower total number of motile spermatozoa inseminated
